In 1994, furthered by the Venezuelan embassy and the Dominican Government, the artwork Cilindros de Inducción Cromática por Cambio de Frecuencia, by Carlos Cruz-Diez, was integrated into the grain silos of Molinos Dominicanos. Cruz-Diez was intimately connected to the Dominican Republic due to being the great grandnephew of one of the founders of this country, Juan Pablo Duarte. Since then, this artwork, which could be seen from various sites at both sides of the Ozama River, became a monumental artistic icon of the city of Santo Domingo, creating a space of movement and color that contrasted with the colonial area, east of the city.

The titanic realization of this artwork was undertaken by the Dominican Corporation of State-Own Companies (Corporación Dominicana de Empresas Estatales, CORDE), who then owned the silos of Molinos Dominicanos. The workings were directed by the very Cruz-Diez and the incredible visual result caused quite a stir. In 2003, due to the privatization of the building, the new owning company of Molinos Modernos, Corporación Multi Inversiones, claiming lack of maintenance and the general restructuration of the building, chose to cover the silos with white paint. The artwork was an icon in the Dominican art history, remembered nostalgically by the citizens.
