CARLOS CRUZ-DIEZ

Project type: Restoration

Artist: Carlos Cruz-Diez

Status: Under inspection

Project year: 1997

Location: Av. Rómulo Betancourt, Porlamar, Nueva Esparta, Venezuela

Porlamar encapsulates the essence of Nueva Esparta state; it is located at the heart of Margarita Island and constitutes its main urban and economic center. Formerly called Pueblo de la Mar (Town of the Sea), Porlamar was founded on 1536 by Father Francisco de Villacorta, and boomed because of pearl hunting activities. It constitutes the largest and most important urban center or Margarita Island, which has been for decades one of the main touristic destinations in the country.

The piece Fuente de Inducción Cromática Tres Arcos is built in steel, ceramics, and concrete, and comprises 3 arcs (8 m in diameter and 0.80 m for the width of the lateral surface). It is located in the roundabout of a very important avenue, and originally functioned as a fountain that communicated the arcs through thin jets of water.
